New Books in the Cougar Media Center!

On February 2, 2010, Virgo students were treated by a visit from Rhonda Bellamy. Ms. Bellamy was a speaker during the school's celebration of Black History Month. During the visit, Ms. Bellamy presented an autographed copy of her book, Moving Forward Together: A Community Remembers 1898.

Check it out on the circulation desk during your next visit.

Also, by student demand, the school purchased four box sets of Percy Jackson & the Olympians which includes the following titles in the series: The Lightning Thief, The Sea of Monsters, and The Titan's Curse.

The movie version of The Lightning Thief is coming to theaters soon. Read the book first and make comparisons. I bet you like the book better!!

Yearbook Sales!

D.C. Virgo Yearbooks will go on sale beginning Monday, January 11th and end on March 5th. Each book cost $22.00, but after March 5th, the price goes up to $25.00. 8th graders only may include name engraving and icons on the front cover. Each cost $5.00. Yearbook staff members will be coming to homeroom every morning, so pre-order your school yearbook during the sale!!

We are starting something NEW at Virgo.....Cougar Family Book Club!!! Beginning in January, families can come out at receive FREE dinner and a FREE book to read at home. In four weeks, we come back for FREE dinner, informal book discussion, and another FREE book for our next meeting! After another four weeks, come back for FREE dinner and our final book discussions.

If you want to join the FUN, see Ms. Gower or Mrs. Konrady for an interest form to be returned by December 18th! Get those forms in, so we can ordered those new, shiny books!

The "Lights, Camera, Book Fair!" is in full swing at the D.C. Virgo! Come and visit during the next two Family Nights: Dec. 3 and Dec. 7 from 5-7 prior to the band and chorus concerts. Enjoy popcorn and bottled water while you shop and support our library!

Be sure to check out the teacher wish list bulletin board for cool gifts which will help build classroom libraries! Also, enter the two student drawings for Book Fair Bucks to be spent during the fair.

It's almost here....the Winter Book Fair at the Cougar Library. Come do some Holiday shopping December 1st-7th. Students will be previewing with their classes on Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday. Come out and enjoy "A Night at the Movies" theme with popcorn and bottled water on the three Family Nights we are having from 5-7. Family Nights are scheduled for Dec. 1st, 3rd and 7th!

Believe it or not??? I was contacted yesterday by Cherry Lake Publishers and I won a drawing for 8 new titles for D.C. Virgo Middle School. They were shipped today! Be on the lookout for books about athletic shoes, islands, golf, skateboarding, video gaming, cell phones, vision, and marine biology.

AASL Conference

I just returned from the AASL (American Association of School Librarians) Conference, which was held in Charlotte. I had a great time meeting authors, gathering new ideas and collecting books to donate to D.C. Virgo's Media Center Collection! Stop by the media center to see the new titles.

I also had the opportunity to hear author, James Patterson, speak about his novels. This was very exciting. I look forward to using some of the ideas I learned in our media center!

New Book gift from Books Are Fun!

The Cougar Media Center received a new children's book by the beloved author, Dr. Seuss today from Books Are Fun! Be on the lookout for The Big Blue Book of Beginner Books. This book includes six Seuss stories in one book! This book will be located in the Easy Fiction area of the media center after it has been cataloged.
